How to check PNR status for Indian railways

Type your pnr number:

PNR status is a Passenger Name Record status. This is used for passenger to check railway reservation confirmed or not.
It is used to know seat confirmation in train, train details, passenger details etc.

There are different ways to check PNR status :-

Using Mobile or Landline

using call service
IRCTC gives a Toll Free number “139“.
Just dial 139 using mobile, BSNL landline, MTNL landline and you get information about your PNR status.
Delhi and Mumbai residents have another advantage they can directly dial 139 followed by 10 digit PNR Number or 139 followed by 4 digit train no and they can get details.
For eg: Suppose PNR number is 6767676767
Just call to 1396767676767 and get details.

using SMS service
Check PNR status using SMS facility
Send text message to 139 number just type PNR followed by PNR number. Type PNR number after PNR without any space
For eg: Suppose PNR number is 6767676767
Send an SMS PNR6767676767 to 139 number.

Alternative SMS option
Send an SMS PNR<space><your PNR number> to 5676747.
eg: PNR 6767676767 send to 5676747

    I have booked a ticket while round across India, but without paying to TT I think its very difficult task to get your seat confirmed, PNR status if IRCtC website is not more than a Joke, I have register my complaint with railway officials and also with the consumer court India, but shocked to see too many complaints against the irctc people, just visit and give me the reply what’s going on while the India Railway, we should raise our voice against them.

    Yes, this bloody 139 is not a toll free number, wake up people this fuckin indian government does not do anything for its country people…..All the fast enquiry or emergency numbers should be toll free. More oever if the government want it can bloody make 100, 101, 102 numbers chargeable numbers because they want to do anything to earn money via corruption….I can say that I’m not proud to be Indian……

    u all are correct absolutely.To hell with these railway dept. . 139 is not a toll free number. if u call to 139 it will charge Rs.2 and if u’ll sms it will charge Rs. 3/- per sms.
    but one thing is good u’ll receive pnr status through this sms to 139 that is fine.

    YEP, I used Indian railways official site several time to check my PNR status, I have also used alternate methods; through mobile and landline. Big up for smartphone functionality that even if I have to check through website I don’t need to rush to my laptop.

    I was wondering about future railway ticket, where PNR status change on ticket itself. Well, it may sound little too much but you never know what’s coming, 15 years before video call was also science fiction, now it’s reality.
